Vol. 462 No. 4

Written Answers. - Leaving Certificate Marking.

Micheál Martin

Ceist:

80 Mr. Martin asked the Minister for Education the queries or complaints, if any, that were made to her Department in relation to the marking of subjects other than art in the 1995 leaving certificate examination; if so, the queries involved; the action, if any, taken by her following receipt of such queries; and if she will make a statement on the matter. [4762/96]

Following the dispatch of the leaving certificate results each year my Department receives queries, by letter, by phone and from personal callers, regarding the performance of candidates in the examination. It is my Department's normal practice to inform the persons making the queries or complaints of the availability of the appeals procedure under which reviews of marking can be undertaken on application.

The appeal results for the 1995 leaving certificate were issued on 4 October 1995. Subsequent to the processing of the appeals my Department received and continues to receive a range of queries generally relating to concerns of individual students. In general my Department's response to these queries is to check the individual case and communicate the outcome to the person who raised the query.
