Ceist:148 Mr. Ellis asked the Minister for the Environment if he will make an order to set up a drainage board for the Shannon Erne waterway; and if he will give details of its responsibilities. [5102/96]

The Arterial Drainage (Ballinamore/Ballyconnell Joint Committee) Regulations, 1996, were made by me on 16 January 1996. The regulations provide for the establishment of a joint drainage committee, comprised of elected members of Cavan and Leitrim County Councils, to assume responsibility for the control and management of the Ballinamore/Ballyconnell drainage district and the maintenance of drainage works therein. I propose shortly to make an order under section 8 of the County Management Act, 1940, designating one of the county managers as the manager for the joint committee.
