No projects have been assisted to date under the cultural development incentives scheme 1994-99. On 27 February 1996, however, I announced details of the first eight arts and culture projects which I approved in principle for funding under the scheme. Details of the eight projects and the level of grant aid funding, subject to satisfactory resolution of outstanding issues with applicants, which I have approved in principle for each are set out as follows:—
—the provision of a modern theatre facility in Letterkenny, County Donegal; funding of £1,500,000 approved in principle;
—the provision of a modern arts centre in the Old Courthouse, Portlaoise, County Laois; funding of £1,300,000 approved in principle;
—the development of, and extension to, existing facilities at the Cork Public Museum; funding of £900,000 approved in principle;
—the renovation and extension of the Waterford Theatre Royal, an unique victorian horseshoe theatre, bringing the venue up to modern contemporary theatre standards; funding of £562,000 approved in principle;
—the restoration and refurbishment to contemporary theatre standards of the Everyman Palace Theatre, Cork city; funding of £350,000 approved in principle;
