Vol. 463 No. 3

Written Answers. - Code of Practice.

Helen Keogh

Ceist:

33 Ms Keogh asked the Minister for Equality and Law Reform whether the code of practice on measures to protect the dignity of women and men at work have been reviewed; and if he intends to make the results of such reviews public. [6410/96]

I published the Code of Practice on Measures to Protect the Dignity of Men and Women at Work towards the end of 1994.

This code of practice was prepared by the Employment Equality Agency with the full co-operation of both ICTU and IBEC and in accordance with a commitment in the Programme for Competitiveness and Work it is being promoted, monitored and reviewed on an ongoing basis by the Employment Equality Agency.

I understand that the code has been well received by the social partners and the public generally and that its positive impact has stimulated a greater awareness of the rights and responsibilities of both employees and employers on the issue.

On the introduction of forthcoming employment equality legislation which will aim to strengthen protection against sexual harassment at work, a review of the code will be considered.
