316 Mr. D. Ahern asked the Minister for Social Welfare the number of persons employed in the constituency office and the private office by him and the Minister(s) of State at his Department; the rank of each person; their salaries; the functions of the constituency office and the private office; and if he will make a statement on the matter. The information being sought by the Deputy about the staff employed in my own office and in the office of the Minister of State at my Department, Deputy Bernard Durkan, is contained in my replies to Question No. 124 on 14 December 1995 and Questions Nos. 215 and 216 on 6 February 1996.
The functions of the private offices are to provide clerical administrative and specialist support to the Minister and Minister of State in their respective roles as Ministers, and in the case of my office, in my role as a member of the Government.
The functions of the constituency offices are to provide assistance to the Minister and Minister of State in all matters relating to constituency affairs.
