Vol. 463 No. 3

Written Answers. - End of Ceasefire Impact on Tourism.

Batt O'Keeffe

Ceist:

322 Mr. B. O'Keeffe asked the Minister for Tourism and Trade the concerns, if any, he has at the impact on the tourism market by the ending of the ceasefire; and the action, if any, he proposes to take to ensure that targets set in the Tourism Development Plan are achieved. [6117/96]

I refer the Deputy to the text of my reply to Questions Nos. 17, 26, 37, 48, 50 and 224 on 27 February 1996 relating to this issue.

Bord Fáilte is continuously monitoring the situation within the various markets in association with key carriers, tour operators and product suppliers and major promotional campaigns are continuing. The board will continue to promote and sell Ireland as a holiday destination as vigorously as possible and I have every confidence that the targets set out in the tourism operational programme for increased tourism revenue and employment will be achieved.
