Council Directive 92/117/EEC of 17 December 1992 concerns measures for protection against specified zoonoses and specified zoonotic agents in animals and products of animal origin in order to prevent outbreaks of food-borne infections and intoxications. The mandatory zoonoses covered by this Directive are tuberculosis due to mycobacterium bovis, brucellosis and the agents thereof, salmonellosis and the agents thereof and trichinosis.
The Directive is at present the subject of discussion at working party level in Brussels with a view to its amendment. Data collected is for submission to the European Commission. At this stage it is not possible to indicate how the information being collected from member states in respect of 1995 will be used and whether the information will be published. The Directive provides that the European Commission shall evaluate the information supplied by member states and shall report to the Standing Veterinary Committee.
