408 Mrs. O'Rourke asked the Minister for Transport, Energy and Communications if he will investigate the case of a person (details supplied) in County Westmeath who has received notification of a 1000 per cent increase in her leased line fees. [6321/96]

I understand the Deputy's question has been asked in the context of my reply to a general question on this matter in which I indicated that I would examine individual cases where it appeared the increased tariffs for short distance analogue circuits notified to customers exceeded the capped levels I approved for general application for such circuits.

I asked Telecom Éireann to examine the case referred to by the Deputy. I am informed that the original increased tariff notified to the customer was based on an incorrect calculation. The company has since rectified the matter whereby the revised tariff is now set at the capped levels already referred to. I understand that Telecom Éireann has conveyed its apologies for any inconvenience caused by its error.
