Vol. 463 No. 3

Written Answers. - Voluntary Redundancy Case.

Mary O'Rourke

Ceist:

418 Mrs. O'Rourke asked the Minister for Defence if voluntary redundancy will be made available to a person (details supplied) in County Westmeath who is a serving member of the Defence Forces and classified as Grade C. [6015/96]

It is anticipated that the voluntary early retirement scheme for members of the Permanent Defence Force will be introduced in or around May of this year. The purpose of the scheme is to allow the early retirement of up to 2,300 PDF personnel over the next three years. Personnel in certain categories, including those who are classified as medical category "C", will be given the option of availing of it. Applications to avail of the scheme will be invited in due course and will be processed through the normal chain of command. All those eligible to avail of VER will be dealt with in a humane and equitable fashion having regard to both their concerns and the needs of the organisation.
