Vol. 463 No. 3

Written Answers. - Departmental State Cars.

Dermot Ahern

Ceist:

425 Mr. D. Ahern asked the Minister for Defence in respect of his Department and each semi-State body and Government-constituted board under the aegis of his Department but with the exception of members of the Government, the persons who are provided with cars at State expense; the offices held by such persons; the number of people employed to drive such cars; the type of use permitted for such cars; and the total cost in each case. [6472/96]

The Chief of Staff is provided with a car and military driver for official use and cars with drivers are also normally available to other officers of General rank for official travel. A pool of cars and drivers is maintained for the conveyance of other personnel of the Defence Forces in the course of their official duties. Apportionment of costs in relation to the foregoing is not readily available.

There are no State boards or agencies under the aegis of my Department.
