Vol. 463 No. 3

Written Answers. - Departmental Staff Work Practices.

Dermot Ahern

Ceist:

438 Mr. D. Ahern asked the Minister for the Marine if he or the Minister(s) of State at his Department have directed any of the staff employed in the departmental constituency office to work directly in the local constituency clinic; if so, if this practice is in the public interest; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [6489/96]

My constituency office is based in the Department of Defence and I will answer separately in that connection.

The Minister of State does not have a local constituency office. He holds clinics in the constituency and his personal secretary normally attends these with him.

Máire Geoghegan-Quinn

Ceist:

439 Mrs. Geoghegan-Quinn asked the Minister for the Marine the plans, if any, he has to make an official ferry port designation for Cleggan Pier in Connemara, County Galway; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [6523/96]

Máire Geoghegan-Quinn

Ceist:

440 Mrs. Geoghegan-Quinn asked the Minister for the Marine if he will have arrangements made for a safety and structural assessment of the pier in Cleggan, County Galway, to be carried out; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [6524/96]

Máire Geoghegan-Quinn

Ceist:

441 Mrs. Geoghegan-Quinn asked the Minister for the Marine whether he intends to allocate finance for the essential structural and safety works required for Cleggan Pier in County Galway; whether this work is scheduled to commence in 1996; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [6525/96]

Máire Geoghegan-Quinn

Ceist:

442 Mrs. Geoghegan-Quinn asked the Minister for the Marine whether he intends putting in place the necessary administrative structure to ensure the continued and safe use of Cleggan Pier, County Galway, for ferries and fishing boats. [6526/96]

I propose to answer Questions Nos. 439, 440, 441 and 442 together.

I understand that relevant parties including Galway County Council and the Department have been invited to review the infrastructural needs at Cleggan Pier at first hand at a meeting at Cleggan on 20 April. The Department's regional engineer will attend. The identified needs and options will be costed and assessed in light of the outcome of that meeting, and in light of available funding, in consultation with the county council and other interests.
