Vol. 463 No. 3

Written Answers. - National Lottery Funding.

Eoin Ryan

Ceist:

71 Mr. E. Ryan asked the Minister for Finance, in view of the success of the national lottery, the plans, if any, he has to consider a review of the small redundancy payments made to the employees of the Irish Sweeps Stakes. [6082/96]

There are no plans to allocate national lottery funding for this purpose.

The Hospitals Trust (1940) Ltd. was a private company which went into voluntary liquidation in 1987. In December 1990, the Public Hospitals (Amendment) Act, 1990, enabled the Minister for Health to take over approximately £481,000 in unclaimed sweepstakes prize money, together with accrued interest, for distribution to former employees of the company. The money was distributed in 1990 and 1991 on receipt of valid application forms to the two categories of former employees generally regarded as being the most seriously disadvantaged when the company ceased operating.

There are no further funds available to assist the former employees of the Hospitals Trust (1940) Ltd.
