Vol. 463 No. 3

Written Answers. - Medical Records.

Seán Power

Ceist:

114 Mr. Power asked the Minister for Health the reason it is not possible to produce any of the medical records of a person (details supplied) in County Kerry; and if has satisfied himself that every effort has been made to obtain these records. [6241/96]

Limerick East): According to the hospital patient register in Cherry Orchard Hospital, the patient concerned was admitted on 16 August 1955 and discharged on 4 May 1956. The hospital does not have any medical records for patients for the period prior to 1 January 1963.

I understand that a thorough search has also been carried out in the archives of the National Children's Hospital, Harcourt Street but, again, the hospital authorities were unable to locate the medical records of the patient concerned.

I am satisfied both hospitals have made every effort to locate this patient's records. Unfortunately, at this stage, it must be assumed the records concerned were destroyed.
