Seamus Kirk

Ceist:

111 Mr. Kirk asked the Minister for Enterprise and Employment the current quota for the community employment scheme; and the actual number of people employed under the scheme. [7708/96]

I propose to take Questions Nos. 99, 107, 110 and 111 together.

Provision has been made for an average of 40,000 places on community employment (CE) during 1996 and at the end of March there were 39,596 participants on CE.
All vacancies can be filled subject to resources being available. The total number of CE projects nationally at the end of February was 2,898, of which 605 had less than 11 participants. With regard to the number of CE projects operating in individual areas, including the number of participants on such projects, this is a day to day operational matter for FÁS.
