Vol. 464 No. 1

Written Answers. - Company Liquidations and Receiverships.

Ivor Callely

Ceist:

103 Mr. Callely asked the Minister for Enterprise and Employment the numbers of companies that went into liquidation or receivership in 1995; the percentage of these companies that were in receipt of State aid; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [7603/96]

In 1995, in accordance with the relevant provisions of the Companies Acts, 1963 to 1990, the Companies Registration Office received notification of the appointment of a liquidator in respect of 777 companies and a receiver in respect of 55 companies.

It will be appreciated that the processes in respect of many of the companies which went into liquidation or receivership in 1995 would not yet have concluded. Recovery of any repayable grant-aid would be a normal issue in those processes.

The information requested on State aid is not available.

In the case of Forbairt, I am advised that the body does not maintain statistics on the numbers of grant-aided companies that go into liquidation or receivership in a particular period. However, its legal department does monitor such companies and, in 1995, 43 grant aided companies were identified which had gone into liquidation or receivership and which had received a grant which could be repayable. There are, of course, a number of programmes to assist companies in difficulties.
