Vol. 464 No. 3

Written Answers. - Army Typists.

Mary Harney

Ceist:

153 Miss Harney asked the Minister for Defence the plans, if any, he has to make permanent the 52 army typists employed with his Department in view of the fact that some of these typists have over 25 years service; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [8131/96]

The 52 civilian typists referred to are engaged as civilian employees under section 30 of the Defence Act, 1954, to provide typing services for the Defence Forces at the various military installations across the country. As civilian employees, these typists, in common with a range of other categories of civilian employees totalling approximately 1,300, with the Defence Forces, are already in permanent, pensionable positions.
