Vol. 464 No. 7

Written Answers. - Moville (Donegal) School.

Cecilia Keaveney

Ceist:

87 Cecilia Keaveney asked the Minister for Education the current position in relation to St. Joseph's national school, Moville, County Donegal. [8833/96]

I take it the Deputy is referring to an application made by St. Joseph's boys' national school for improved accommodation.

The position is that significant capital expenditure would be required to bring the condition of St. Joseph's to a reasonable standard. In this context, and with a view to improving educational provision in the town of Moville, my Department asked that the proposal for an amalgamation of the two schools on the girls' school site should be considered locally.
The chairman of the boards of management of the schools has recently indicated that agreement has been reached on an amalgamation of the schools. My Department will be in contact with the chairman in the near future regarding both the proposed amalgamation and improved school accommodation for the area.
