Vol. 464 No. 8

Written Answers. - Remedial Teacher Appointment.

Noel Treacy

Ceist:

46 Mr. N. Treacy asked the Minister for Education the reason a remedial teacher has not been appointed to a school (details supplied) in County Galway; if her attention has been drawn to the urgency of this situation; if she will allocate a teacher to this school; if so, when; and if she will make a statement on the matter. [8928/96]

Remedial teacher posts are allocated on the basis of priority of need and having regard to available resources. I am aware that the school in question has sought the appointment of a remedial teacher. However, I am not in a position at present to make additional remedial teacher posts available.

I will continue to review needs in this area and consider how best these needs can be addressed within available resources. The needs of all schools, including the school referred to by the Deputy, will be considered within this context.
