Vol. 465 No. 6

Written Answers. - Education Grants.

Michael Creed

Ceist:

208 Mr. Creed asked the Minister for Education the assistance, if any, available from her Department to assist Irish students studying abroad; and the assistance, if any, in this regard that is available from the EU. [10346/96]

John Ellis

Ceist:

209 Mr. Ellis asked the Minister for Education the way in which she proposes to operate the grant for overseas students; and when applicants will be required to submit their applications. [10352/96]

The arrangements for the extension of maintenance grants to Irish students studying in other EU countries are being incorporated in the 1996 schemes of student support which will issue shortly. I will arrange to have a copy of the schemes forwarded to the Deputies when they issue.

In general Irish third level students who receive EU funded student mobility grants as part of the Erasmus programme may have their student support continued for up to one year in respect of their studies in another EU member state.
