Vol. 465 No. 6

Written Answers. - Youthreach Programme.

Mary Coughlan

Ceist:

210 Miss Coughlan asked the Minister for Education the sick pay and injury benefit, if any, that is available to teachers who participate in the Youthreach Programme; and if she will make a statement on the matter. [10358/96]

Staff who participate in the Youthreach Programme are employed either on temporary whole-time or part-time basis. Such staff enjoy similar conditions of service as their counterparts employed by vocational education committees.

Temporary wholetime teachers may be granted sick pay of up to a maximum of 91 days in a given year on the same terms and conditions as are applicable to a permanent wholetime teacher. Sick leave proportionate to duration of tenure of the post may be granted to a temporary wholetime teacher who is employed for any period less than the full session. Absences for minor indispositions may be allowed not exceeding seven days in a year, provided that absences in excess of three days are medically certified. Part-time staff are paid only for the hours worked.

All Youthreach staff pay PRSI contributions at Class A and as such are entitled to full occupational injuries benefit.
