286 Mr. Ring asked the Minister for Agriculture, Food and Forestry when a person (details supplied) in County Mayo will be paid his second instalment of the REP scheme in view of the fact that the delay is causing financial hardship. [10164/96]
The person concerned applied for his second year payment under the REP scheme. However, under revised monitoring and control of procedures implemented by my Department recently, compliance checks are required to ensure that farmers have completed the specific works outlined during the first year of the plan before second year payments can be made.
These checks will commence this week on those who joined the scheme in 1994 so that second year payments can be made to that group at the earliest possible date.
