Vol. 465 No. 8

Written Answers. - L'Imaginaire Irlandais.

Liam Lawlor

Ceist:

67 Mr. Lawlor asked the Minister for Arts, Culture and the Gaeltacht the level of artistic and popular success of the Imaginaire Irlandais project in Paris; the consideration, if any, that is being given to establishing similar projects in other European cities; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [10661/96]

L'Imaginaire Irlandais, the major festival of contemporary Irish art and culture, which was officially inaugurated by me in Paris on 15 March 1996, is continuing there and in the regions of France until August.

The project, which is unique, having its genesis in a meeting between the President of Ireland and the late President Mitterrand in the course of her State visit to France in May 1992, is considered a success to date. I am of the view, however, that it would be more meaningful to defer an evaluation of the success of the total project until after its conclusion in August.
