Vol. 465 No. 8

Written Answers. - Remission of Penalties.

Mary O'Rourke

Ceist:

85 Mrs. O'Rourke asked the Minister for Justice if she will review the case of a person (details supplied) in County Westmeath. [10667/96]

It is contrary to long established practice and, I am satisfied, inappropriate for me as Minister for Justice to deal at question time with individual petitions for the remission of penalties. I am satisfied that this practice is justified and I think it necessary to adhere to it. Consequently, I would not feel able either to treat a parliamentary question as a petition for the remission of a penalty or to offer any comment on the particular case. I will write to the Deputy on the matter in the normal way.
