Vol. 466 No. 3

Written Answers. - Garda Deployment.

Frances Fitzgerald

Ceist:

82 Ms F. Fitzgerald asked the Minister for Justice the number of gardaí who have been removed from duty in Dublin in order to undertake Border duty in relation to the BSE problem. [11298/96]

The allocation of Garda personnel and resources is the responsibility of the Garda authorities. They have informed me that, among the 327 gardaí (all ranks) currently assigned to Border duty arising from the BSE situation, 165 are from the Dublin metropolitan area. No members attached to specialist Garda units such as the Serious Crimes Squad, Drugs Squad, Special Detective Units, etc., are among those transferred from Dublin.
