303 Cecilia Keaveney asked the Minister for the Marine if he will make a statement on the funding available to local authorities or community groups wishing to develop the many small harbours in need of repair throughout County Donegal to facilitate a multistop coastal route for touring crafts. Repair and maintenance of local authority owned piers is the responsibility of the relevant local authorities. Under the Operational Programme for Fisheries, which is administered by the Department, funding is available for the capital development of fishery harbours. Only projects which demonstrate a significant potential return from the fisheries perspective are grant aided under the programme.
Funding of mooring facilities to facilitate marine tourism development is provided for under the Tourism Operational Programme, which is the responsibility of my colleague, the Minister for Tourism and Trade.
