The statement below in tabular form sets out the location and number of Youthreach places in the education sector in County Dublin. At present an expansion of the programme by a further 450 places nationally is under way, and applications for proposals have been invited from all vocational education committees. A district approach is being implemented in the allocation of these places, which seeks to ensure, as far as possible, complementarity with the activities of other agencies in the area and with the plans of the local area based partnerships under the local urban and rural development operational programme. In addition, as part of the expansion, innovative proposals have been requested which pilot new arrangements for progression for Youthreach trainees to higher levels of training, and which cater for groups with special needs, such as lone parents, young offenders, drug addicts etc.
An application has been received for 110 additional places in Dublin City and County. My Department will be entering into discussions at national level with FÁS and Area Development Management Ltd. before making final decisions shortly on the distribution of the new places.
Trainees may enrol on a programme by making contact with their nearest Youthreach centre or Community Training Workshop or with their nearest FÁS or vocational education committee office, or with local community or social workers.
