Vol. 467 No. 1
284 Mr. Andrews asked the Minister for Tourism and Trade the current position in relation to the retention of the World Equestrian Games; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [12705/96]
Following recent strengthening and greater focusing within the board and management of World Equestrian Games (Ireland) Ltd., and on the basis of a substantial sponsorship commitment on the part of Nissan and the terms of the offer from the International Equestrian Federation — FEI — to halve the value of the Bord Fáilte guarantee, the Government agreed on 12 June to my recommendation to recommence funding, within specified limits, to WEG (Ireland) Ltd. I expect this decision — which has been formally conveyed to the company — will enable WEG (Ireland) Ltd. to proceed with their plans to hold the games in Ireland in 1998.
