100 Mr. N. Treacy asked the Minister for the Environment the reason a project (details supplied) in County Galway has not been sanctioned by him, in spite of the fact that it has a priority rating since 1995; the date on which a positive recommendation was received from officials in his Department regarding this project; if he intends to sanction this project; if so, when; the amount of grant aid to be made available in respect of this project in 1996; and if he will make a statement on the matter. Minister for the Environment (Mr. Howlin)

This is one of the high priority projects included in my Department's work programme for 1996. It is expected that planning will be substantially completed by year's end with construction commencing in early 1997. It is estimated that over £500,000 will be spent on the scheme up to the end of 1996.
