Vol. 467 No. 2

Written Answers. - Waste Water Collection Scheme.

Noel Treacy

Ceist:

101 Mr. N. Treacy asked the Minister for the Environment the reason a project (details supplied) in County Galway has not been sanctioned by him, in spite of the fact that it has a priority rating since 1995; the date on which a positive recommendation was received from officials in his Department regarding this project; if he intends to sanction this project; if so, when; the amount of grant aid to be made available in respect of this project in 1996; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [12958/96]

Galway County Council submitted a brief to my Department for the appointment of consultants to prepare a preliminary report for upgrading the waste water collection system for the town and its environs, including the areas referred to. An application for Cohesion Fund assistance for the planning stages of the project was submitted to the European Commission in October 1994 and a decision is awaited. Further progress must await the determination of this application.
