Vol. 467 No. 2

Written Answers. - Fluorosis in Cattle.

Trevor Sargent

Ceist:

157 Mr. Sargent asked the Minister for Agriculture, Food and Forestry if his attention has been drawn to the existence of any health problems with livestock in countries other than Ireland, that can be attributed to an intake of fluoride. [13031/96]

Cases of fluorosis in livestock have been recorded in various countries. In cattle, the chief clinical signs in severely affected animals are lameness associated with marked skeletal abnormalities and dental changes such as mottling of the enamel and excessive and irregular wear of teeth.
