Vol. 467 No. 2

Written Answers. - Extradition Case.

Brian Cowen

Ceist:

33 Mr. Cowen asked the Minister for Justice whether the Attorney General is accountable in circumstances where the original of an extradition warrant is duly delivered in this country and is not subsequently produced in court in the extradition proceedings to which it relates; if not, the person who is responsible in this regard; and if she will make a statement on the matter. [11782/96]

The Attorney General is not accountable in the circumstances described.

I refer the Deputy to the response by the Minister for Justice on 21 May to a written question by Deputy O'Donnell wherein she stated that responsibility for ensuring that the original documents transmitted by the requesting country seeking the extradition of a person are available to the court, rests with the Garda authorities.
