Vol. 467 No. 2

Written Answers. - County Strategy Groups.

Noel Dempsey

Ceist:

87 Mr. Dempsey asked the Taoiseach the number of county council chairman that have been appointed to county strategy groups for each of the years 1995 and 1996; whether there are any positions for county council chairmen outstanding in these groups; and if so, the reason for the delay in appointing such chairmen. [13001/96]

As was indicated in reply to questions on 28 May 1996, the Minister of State at my Department, Deputy Gay Mitchell, has written to the Cathaoirleach of each county council and county borough council inviting them to nominate three representatives to the relevant county strategy group.

No nominations have been received to date.

There was no provision for the inclusion of local public representatives on county strategy groups in the Operational Programme for Local Urban and Rural Development, 1994-99. Consequently, introducing such appointments required the agreement of the European Commission and the Monitoring Committee of the Operational Programme.
