Vol. 467 No. 7

Written Answers. - Rate Support Grant.

Rory O'Hanlon

Ceist:

141 Dr. O'Hanlon asked the Minister for the Environment the percentage increase in the rate support grant to each local authority in 1996; the variation, if any, that exists in this regard; if so, the reason therefor; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [13977/96]

I refer to the reply to Questions Nos. 273, 274, 275 and 276 of 23 January 1996 which gives data on rate support grant payments and allocations in 1995 and 1996. In general, 1996 rate support grant allocations are approximately 2.4 per cent up on 1995 payments. In the cases of Cork Corporation and Athy and Carlow UDCs, larger percentage increases were allocated to deal with particular structural financial problems.
