Vol. 467 No. 7

Written Answers. - Concreate Products' Standards.

James Leonard

Ceist:

326 Mr. Leonard asked the Minister for Enterprise and Employment whether he proposes to introduce mandatory standards for ready-mix concrete and concrete products. [14286/96]

I am informed by the National Standards Authority of Ireland which is responsible for the development and promulgation of Irish standards for products manufactured in this country or placed on the Irish market, that they have received no requests for the introduction of a mandatory standard in relation to ready-mix concrete and concrete products. I have no plans at present to introduce such a standard.

I understand that there are a number of voluntary standards in existence for concrete and its constituent materials. In addition voluntary standards for precast concrete products have also been devised.
I am informed that the European standards body, CEN (of which Ireland through the NSAI is a member) are involved in the preparation of voluntary European standards for concrete products and its constituent materials.
