Vol. 467 No. 7

Written Answers. - Medical Council Register.

Helen Keogh

Ceist:

87 Ms Keogh asked the Minister for Health the number of persons who have been struck off the Medical Council's Register over the past five years who have subsequently been reinstated on the register; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [14206/96]

Limerick East): The Medical Council has statutory responsibility under the provisions of the Medical Practitioners Act, 1978 in relation to the matters raised by the Deputy. I have been informed by the Medical Council that over the past five years the council decided to erase the names of five fully registered medical practitioners on disciplinary grounds from the General Register of Medical Practitioners. The High Court confirmed these decisions. The name of one practitioner, on application, was subsequently restored to the register by the Medical Council, subject to a number of conditions.
