Vol. 468 No. 1

Written Answers. - Implementation of Directives.

Bertie Ahern

Ceist:

192 Mr. B. Ahern asked the Minister for Tourism and Trade the plans, if any, Ireland has to complete the implementation of Directives covering the internal market and the White Paper measures; and when the process will be complete. [14607/96]

The completion of the small number of outstanding White Paper Internal Market measures is an ongoing process and it is the firm intention of the Irish Presidency to contribute as fully as possible to this process by advancing a number of the key Internal Market dossiers. The Presidency expects to have measures adopted relating to the free movement of doctors, foodstuffs, the Community Customs Code, pressure equipment, motor vehicles and public procurement,

Additionally, in accordance with President Santer's recent "Action for Employment in Europe: A Confidence Pack" and the conclusions of the Florence European Council, the Presidency will seek to expedite the adoption of the Statute for a European Company and the Legal Framework for Biotechnological Inventions. The Presidency will also seek to further progress the liberalisation of the internal electricity and telecommunications markets.
