Vol. 468 No. 1

Written Answers. - Fishing Industry Reports.

Peadar Clohessy

Ceist:

45 Mr. Clohessy asked the Minister for the Marine in view of the fact that three reports, namely the Salmon Task Force, Safety Review Group and Price Waterhouse, on the organisational structure of the Marine were due to be presented to the Minister by 31 May 1996 and the safety review report has just been published, when the other two reports will be published, in particular the Price Waterhouse report, considering that it was announced in Dáil Éireann in February 1995 that the report would be completed by June 1995. [14446/96]

I have received the report of the Salmon Management Task Force and I am finalising a comprehensive strategy, based on the task force's proposals, for the future management of Ireland's wild salmon stocks. I intend to publish the report, and details of the management strategy, following their consideration by the Government.

Price Waterhouse Management Consultants are finalising a review of the organisational and management structure of the fishery service. While the original intention was to have the main work of the review completed by the middle of 1995, the processes of consultation and the evaluation took considerably longer than had been envisaged. I expect to receive the final report of the review from the consultants shortly.
