Wallace asked the Minister for Health the studies, if any, carried out on Asperger's Syndrome by his Department; the number of persons with the syndrome; the support, if any, provided by his Department to persons with the syndrome; and if he will make a statement on the matter. Limerick East): No studies have been carried out by my Department on Asperger's Syndrome. Because of the fact that there can be some confusion over the diagnosis of Asperger's Syndrome, the number of persons with this syndrome is not known. While services are mainly provided to this group through the psychiatric services, including the child psychiatric services, a number do receive support through the services for persons with autism.
