394 Mrs. O'Rourke asked the Minister for Education if she will give details of the extra financial allocation which she has made to Athlone Urban District Council, County Westmeath, for the proposed sports complex; the arrangements in place for the payment of this allocation; if she will confirm earlier financial allocation; and if she will make a statement on the matter. As outlined in my reply to Parliamentary Question No. 178 of 14 May 1996, provision has been made in the context of the 1996 funding arrangements under the major facilities scheme to increase the grant for this project by £1 million bringing the total grant to £2.5 million.
The present position is that Athlone Urban District Council is preparing updated detailed drawings and costings, as well as details of the financial package, for submission to my Department.
In line with all such projects, payments are made on foot of architect's certificates as the work is undertaken.
