Vol. 470 No. 1

Written Answers. - Aquaculture Licences Applications.

Éamon Ó Cuív

Ceist:

312 Éamon Ó Cuív asked the Minister for the Marine the current number of applications for aquaculture licences for fin fish farming in the Galway and Connemara area; when a decision will be made on each application; and the names of each applicant. [18502/96]

The Department has on hand four applications for licensing for finfish farming in the Galway and Connemara area. Of the four applications on hand, two relate to a marine salmon farming development and the remaining two are for land based facilities. The marine applications have been submitted by Killary Salmon Company Ltd., and Mannin Bay Salmon Company. A number of technical, legal and other considerations will determine the timeframe for decision in these cases. The two applications for the land based operations have been submitted by Mr. Joe McElwee and Mr. John J. Coyne. These applications are currently being assessed by the Department's technical services. A decision on both cases is contingent upon the outcome of the technical assessment and completion of the local authority planning process.
