Vol. 470 No. 2

Written Answers. - County Cork School Extension.

Michael Creed

Ceist:

120 Mr. Creed asked the Minister for Education if contractors were invited to tender for the provision of pre-fabricated classrooms for a school (details supplied) in County Cork; the number of tenders received; whether a contract has been placed; and if so, the criteria used in selecting the contractor. [18695/96]

Earlier this year, the Department approved the provision of prefabricated accommodation at the school in question and the board of management was instructed to invite tenders for the accommodation.

It is the responsibility of the board of management and its consultant architect in the first instance to make the detailed arrangements, such as inviting tenders.

Contractors were invited to tender and I understand that four tenders were received. The contract for the prefabricated units was placed recently. The contract was awarded to the lowest tenderer.
