324 Mr. D. Ahern asked the Minister for the Marine the cost of salaries and incidental expenses of all programme managers, special advisors and other non-established contract staff in his Department for each of the years from 1994 to date in 1996; and if he will make a statement on the matter. The cost of salaries and incidental expenses for the staff referred to is as follows:—

1994	1995	1996
£109,176	£167,630	£142,228

By way of explanation in relation to the 1996 expenses, the salary costs are for the period up to 17 October and incidental expenses are for the period up to 30 September. In addition, it should be noted that the salary costs of some of the staff involved are shared equally with the Department of Defence, reflecting my dual ministerial responsibilities.
