Vol. 470 No. 4

Written Answers. - Inter-Agency Enterprise Group.

Patrick J. Morley

Ceist:

40 Mr. Morley asked the Minister for Enterprise and Employment if he will set up an inter-agency enterprise group, similar to the one set up following the closure of Tambrands in Tipperary, to find a replacement industry for Farah Exports Ireland, Ballyhaunis, County Mayo, which recently closed its factory and resulted in the loss of jobs of a number of people in the area together with a serious setback for the local economy. [17109/96]

The factory in Ballyhaunis previously occupied by Farah Exports Ireland is currently in the process of being transferred back to IDA Ireland.

The IDA is conscious of the need to secure a suitable replacement industry in Ballyhaunis and has been actively promoting the Ballyhaunis premises. This will continue until a replacement industry is found.

IDA Ireland and Forbairt and other relevant agencies are in constant contact on this matter and are working co-operatively and effectively towards finding a replacement industry for the Ballyhaunis facility. I do not consider that there is a need to formalise this arrangement at this stage but I will keep the situation under review.
