Vol. 470 No. 4

Written Answers. - Importation of Raw Materials.

Ivor Callely

Ceist:

49 Mr. Calley asked the Taoiseach the percentage of raw materials imported by Irish industry in 1995; the comparative figures for each of the years 1975 and 1985; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [19124/96]

Information of this kind was first collected in 1986. In that year the percentage of materials used by manufacturing industry in Ireland that were Irish-produced was 50.7 per cent.

For 1990 the corresponding percentage was 52.9 per cent.

From 1991 onwards the question was rephrased to refer to materials "purchased" rather than materials "used". In 1993, the latest year for which provisional results are available, the percentage of materials purchased by manufacturing industry in Ireland that were Irish-produced was 57.8 per cent.
