Vol. 470 No. 4

Written Answers. - Child Care Funding.

Mary Coughlan

Ceist:

57 Miss Coughlan asked the Taoiseach the amount of money expended by his Department for the care of children; and the way in which such money is administered. [19374/96]

There is no specific budget in my Department for funding childcare projects.

However, for the past two years my Department has administered grant schemes for local development projects. These grants are in support of local development initiatives organised by community and voluntary groups. Under this scheme the following childcare projects have been allocated funding in 1996: (1) Mountview Development Group, Clonsilla, £5,000 has been approved for the establishment of a locally based resource, information and education centre to include a crèche facility; (2) Pinewood Tenant Management Group, Swords, £1,500 has been approved for the establishment of a pre-school facility in the estate; (3) the Larkin Unemployed Centre, North Strand Road, Dublin 3, £7,500 has been approved for the completion of a childcare facility; (4) Southill Community Services Board, Roxboro Road, Limerick, £5,000 has been approved for the construction of a "conservatory" style extension to a children's nursery to accommodate an extra 20 children.

The groups concerned have been notified of the amount of the grants approved in each case and of the requirements attaching to payment.
