Vol. 470 No. 5

Written Answers. - Urban Renewal Scheme.

Seamus Kirk

Ceist:

82 Mr. Kirk asked the Minister for the Environment if he will include the town of Ardee, County Louth, in the next group of designated towns under the urban renewal scheme; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [19509/96]

The present urban renewal scheme commenced in August 1994 and operates in 35 centres throughout the country. As part of an overall review of the urban renewal schemes, a consultant's report on the impact of the schemes as they have operated to date in economic, social and architectural terms will be completed shortly. This will assist in the formulation of future policy.

It is not intended that the current scheme will be extended to any additional towns or areas. It would be inappropriate to consider what new areas, if any, might be suitable for designation as part of any future scheme until general policy in relation to the next phase of urban renewal is determined in the light of the review.
