Vol. 470 No. 5

Written Answers. - Mayo Teacher Appointment.

Tom Moffatt

Ceist:

96 Dr. Moffatt asked the Minister for Education whether she will accede to the request for a third assistant teacher by the chairman of the board of management and the principal of St. Feichin's national school (details supplied) in Allymars, Ballina, County Mayo. [19508/96]

The staffing of a national school for a particular year is determined by the enrolment at the school on 30 September of the previous year. The authorised staffing at St. Feichin's national school for the current school year, based on the school's enrolment of 87 pupils on 30 September 1995 is a principal and two assistant teachers. I understand that the current enrolment at the school is also 87 pupils. This enrolment can be managed within maximum class size guidelines. Accordingly, there is currently no basis for allocating additional staffing to this school.
