Vol. 470 No. 7

Written Answers. - Student Support Scheme.

Éamon Ó Cuív

Ceist:

172 Éamon Ó Cuív asked the Minister for Education if a student who started university in 1995 in Ireland and subsequently transferred to a course in a university in the United Kingdom will be eligible for maintenance grants in the United Kingdom under the amendments introduced in respect of the higher education grant in 1996; and if she will make a statement on the matter. [19824/96]

Students who entered a course approved under the schemes of student support in 1995 must comply with the terms of the schemes of that year.

There was no provision in the student support schemes in 1995 or previous years to extend maintenance grants to students studying outside Ireland. The category of student referred to by the Deputy is therefore ineligible for a maintenance grant for study in Britain.
