Vol. 470 No. 7

Written Answers. - Army Uniforms.

Ivor Callely

Ceist:

274 Mr. Callely asked the Minister for Defence the plans, if any, he has to modify the Irish Army uniform; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [19969/96]

The uniforms on issue to members of the Defence Forces are reviewed on an ongoing basis. In that context, the combat suit has been identified as one of the articles of clothing that needs to be modernised to take full advantage of modern technology. Also a study group is at present reviewing the specification and design of all articles of uniform on issue to female members and a review of Naval Service uniforms is also taking place at present. It is not possible to put a timescale on the introduction of any new articles of clothing arising from the aforementioned reviews.
