47 Mr. Callely asked the Minister for Defence the total cost of non-civil or public service staff attached to his office in 1995; the anticipated costs in 1996; and if he will give the comparative figures for each of the years 1987 and 1988. [19923/96]
The costs for the staff in question attached to my ministerial office at Defence are: 1995, £43,450; 1996, £54,190 (projections to year end).
The relevant salary costs are shared jointly between Defence and Marine reflecting my dual role. The amounts quoted represent the Defence half of the full salary costs involved. The 1987 and 1988 comparison figures sought are as follows: 1987, £24,677 (costs only from March to December); 1988, £32,046.
The sharing arrangement between Defence and Marine was not relevant in 1987-88.
